Hot Wheels Battle Force 5

Eli knew exactly what he wanted for his birthday, right down to the cake! That's what I like. He wanted the Hot Wheels logo with the Battle Force 5 motorcycle right under it. He was very detailed, and that made my job a lot easier. This is a white cake with vanilla buttercream icing with all details in buttercream icing. It serves about 35-40 people. Happy birthday, Eli! I hope it's exactly like you pictured it.

Handy Man

A handyman shower is a great idea for any guy or couple who is about to be married. He gets neat and useful tools and gadgets, and the bride-to-be gets free labor for life! (If he is, in fact, handy. If not, at least she can watch him pretend, right?)
This is a two layer white cake with vanilla buttercream icing. All the tools are made of Fluff. The cake serves about 40-45 people. We wish the couple many years of happiness!

Monster High Cake

I'll be the first to admit it... I had no idea what Monster High was when this cake was requested. I live a life filled with two little boys, and aside from the occasional show or two my neices mention, I really am clueless to girl shows. However, when I was researching the show, I thought the colors and designs were all so cute! They manage to make a skull and stitches adorable!

The cake is two tiers, each with two layers of white cake filled and iced with vanilla buttercream, and covered with dark charcoal Fluff. All decorations, aside from the white piping on the bottom tier, are made from Fluff. The piping is of course, vanilla buttercream. The cake serves about 40 people. Happy birthday, Sydney, and thanks for the introduction to Monster High.

Tie-Dyed Peace Sign Cake & Cupcakes

Peace signs are so popular in our area! We've had lots of requests for them, and we try to keep each cake different from the next. We've only had one other request for a tie-dye cake, so we tried a new pattern and different colors on this one. The combination of the peace sign and tie-dye made for a unique and very cute cake. The cake is two layers of cake, one of white cake and one of dark chocolate cake, filled and iced with vanilla buttercream, and covered with white Fluff. The cake was then hand-painted with the tie-dye design and topped with a white peace sign cut out of Fluff. The writing was piped with buttercream.
This special little one (she'd correct me if she knew I referred to her as "little one"), now a big eight-year-old, had some friends stay over the night before her party, and of course they needed something for that night, as well. One dozen cupcakes, a mixture of white and dark chocolate cake, were iced with lavender and yellow vanilla buttercream, and topped with sugar sparkles to mimic the tie-dye pattern on the cake.
The cake fed about 40, and of course the cupcakes fed 12. We had a ball making this cake for Maggie, and can't wait to see what design she comes up with for her next birthday. Happy 8th birthday, Maggie. Holly and Aunt Z love you very much!

Spongebob Squarepants

Spongebob Squarepants...what else can be said! Kinley's eyes just lit up when she saw her cake. This is a vanilla cake with buttercream icing and serves about 48 people. Happy Birthday Kinley!!

Dirt Bike Tire Cake

The boys birthday party theme this year was dirt bikes. So...what do we do for the cake. We didn't feel like we had time for an elaborate cake since the week was taken up with baseball practice, a baseball game, and getting ready for all the family to come in for the weekend to also celebrate Easter after the birthday party.
A dirt bike tire cake would do the trick.   This cake and the cupcakes are dark chocolate fudge iced with buttercream icing To make the treads we placed  marshmellows on the  sides of the cake and covered it with our "fluff" dyed black. The numbers 3 and 8 are also from our  "fluff".  This cake and 4 1/2 dozen cupcakes served  about 70 people. Happy Birthday Ian and Tucker! We love you both bunches!!!

Leap Year Birthday - 17th & 68th

Happy Birthday to one of my big sisters who was born in February(which is a great month by the way), on leap year. So technically Muriel is 17 by the leap year calendar and 68 by the regular calendar. Her kids surprised her with a little gathering to help celebrate. These cakes are two layer cakes, one layer of chocolate and one vanilla. They are iced with buttercream and covered with our "fluff". The bows and tags are from our modeling chocolate and serves about 140. Love my big sis!!!

Big T and Sports

Big T is your typical little boy who enjoys all things sports. So Nanny found this cake on a web site and he fell for it. Three tiers with two layers each of vanilla cake and buttercream icing filled our need for something sweet at his party. The middle tier, football, is iced with chocolate buttercream which is awesome. The decorations are from our modeling chocolate. He's growing up and who knows what he'll be into next year. Cowboys and a western theme wouldn't surprise me since his daddy is farming now. Whatever he chooses, we will do our best to give him what he wants. Happy Birthday Big "T"! We love you!

Backyard Fun!

Ah, grandchildren! Well Katie Beth wanted her backyard again this year. She is a unique thinker and has a lot of spirit, which I love about her. She wanted a double-decker chocolate chip cookie with buttercream icing in between. The top was also iced with buttercream icing and all detail work out of modeling chocolate. Well, except for the fountain, which was krispie treats covered with icing and the handles and diving board were the only thing not edible. Okay Katie, can't wait for your ideas next year! Happy Birthday! Love you so, so much!

And we have a winner...

Thanks, guys for playing along with the M&M guesses. It was so fun to see the range of guesses and we were floored with the number of people that put in their guess. Since we didn't actually say whether you could go over the number of M&M's we used or not, we decided to reward both the closest without going over, and the closest that did go just over. We actually used a staggering 2,133 M&M's on Tabitha and Warren's wedding cake, which were all placed on by hand one at a time. So, without stalling any longer, the winners are: Shelia Traweek, with a guess of 2,035, and Millie Miller, with our closest guess of 2,196. Thank you girls, and we'll be in touch! We hope you enjoy the cupcakes!

M&M Wedding Cake

Okay, where do I start? This started out to be, or so we thought, a simple and easy cake. The top picture is the first time we set it up. Two layers in each tier with four tiers starting out on the bottom tier with vanilla cake and the next one chocolate, the next one vanilla and so on. Four and a half hours of putting on M&M's and the job was done (or so we thought). About two hours or so later we got a call with the news that the cake was leaning, badly, and in danger of toppling over. In horror we went to the church and found the bride and grandmother of the bride holding the cake up!
Oh no!!! We had to take the cake completely apart and start over. The bottom two tiers were crumbled beyond use and so it was back to the kitchen to start cooking at midnight, the night before the wedding. We had alot of help with the M&M's from the bride and her family. You see, these were special ordered and had to be wiped off and put back on the cake.
Our second attempt with the cake, it started leaning again and we had to take it apart again. The third time we got it put together, we had to unstack the tiers and regroup. Okay, by this time we were pretty stressed and we can't imagine how the bride felt down deep, although she assured us she was okay. And if you know Tabitha, she has an amazing way of handling stress, she lets it roll off her like water on a ducks back. She is the most happy-go-lucky young woman we know and we love that about her.
Fourth time on the cake and we had to say goodbye to the bottom tier and settle for a three tier cake. We sliced up the bottom tier and got that part of the cake ready to serve. So even though they didn't get to have their pictures made with the original cake, Warren and Tabitha were so sweet to us. It was their big day and instead of stressing out, they wanted to make sure we were okay. They are young and already showing alot of patience. This cake (four tiers), served 138. Thanks to all those who helped us with the 911 cake emergency, we love ya'll lots.
Oh, the only thing we could come up with as far as the cake falling is that the table may not have been level and maybe the M&M's were too heavy (4 lbs total). And maybe neither of these, we just don't know.

CONTEST TIME: Just for the sake of doing it, we are giving those who want to participate, a chance to guess how many M&M's are on the wedding cake and the keepsake cake for the bride (total). The closest guess will be treated to a dozen cupcakes, on the house. Good luck! Guesses must be made by January 4, 2012, and cupcakes must be picked up on January 6, 2012. Please be sure to send us an email or message us on Facebook, but if you choose to post in the comments here on the blog, make sure we can get back in touch with you in case you are the winner.

Jacie Jo's Tye-Dye Cake

Jacie Jo wanted a tye-dye cake. Okay. How in this world do you make a tye-dye cake?! That was our thoughts, too, but she knew exactly what she wanted, down to all the colors, writing, and every little detail. What else were we gonna do? We just have to make our "special customers" (family) happy. So we decided to make 65 servings with the bottom tier two layers of yellow, or butter, cake, and the top tier two layers of dark chocolate cake. The entire cake was iced with buttercream and then topped with Fluff (our newest icing that is WONDERFUL!!) and then hand-painted in a tye-dye pattern. The banners are made from modeling chocolate and the #8 is grape-flavored modeling chocolate (another request from Miss Jacie Jo). I know "grape" and "chocolate" are not two flavors you, or anyone would put together, but it works, and well, I add. It tasted like grape taffy, but just melted faster. The kids loved it!

This shows the tye-dye on the top of the cake a little better.

Jacie Jo is posing for her blog appearance.

We love you so much, silly girl! Happy birthday!
